On Friday, February 7, 2020 the 1969-70 Boys Basketball Team and Gary Woods will inducted into the John Pociavasek Hall of Fame.  The ceremony will take place at the conclusion of the sophomore boys basketball game.  After the varsity game everyone is invited to the Knights of Columbus for cake.  Also at the K of C Hall after the game Bob Guyette will be conducting a meet and greet as Marquette kicks off the Bob Guyette Scholarship. 

*The 1969-70 was the first team in the history of the school to win a District and Regional Title.  The team was coached by Bob Strickland.  In the District Marquette defeated Serena and Earlville to set up the District Championship Game against Seneca.  Marquette defeated Seneca 79-61.  In the Regional Marquette defeated Yorkville and Ottawa to set up a Regional Title Game with Streator at Streator.  Marquette defeated the Bulldogs 58-57 to claim the Regional Title.  In the Sectional at Normal, Marquette defeated Pontiac before losing to LaSalle-Peru in the Sectional Title Game. 

Coach Strickland’s team finished the season with a school record of 26 wins.  The team was led by senior captain Tim Anderson and All Stater and future Kentucky Wildcat Bob Guyette.

Team Members:  Tim Anderson, Bob Carretto, Erv Fullerton, Jim Garland, Bob Guyette, Bruce Loebach, Dan McDonnell, Pat Mooney, Rod Miller, Rich Perez, Dick Schwarzbach, Marty Serena, Chris Sipula, Pat Whalen and Joe Wisniewski.

Managers were:  John Nelson, Jerry Boisso, Ron Harmon and Walter Briephol.

*Gary Woods.  Gary led the 1972-73 Marquette Crusaders to a 28-2 record.  Marquette won Regional and Sectional titles before losing to Kaneland in the Dekalb Super Sectional.  Gary was the captain of the 1972-73  ball club.  Gary was named the team Most Valuable Player and was the assist winner.  Gary set a school record in 1972-73 with 208 assists.  Gary was named to the 1972-73 Illinois All State Basketball Team.
